Latest news on an event I will be working on soon
Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami to headline Spike TV's UFC 122 event in Germany
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 29, 2010 at 2:20 pm ET
A middleweight bout between top contenders Vitor Belfort (19-8 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Yushin Okami (25-5 MMA, 9-2 UFC) is expected to headline November's UFC 122 event, which airs on Spike TV.

Multiple sources today tentative confirmed the plans with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "Wrestling Observer" first reported the likelihood of the fight.

UFC 122 takes Nov. 13 at Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.

The event – though not officially announced – airs via same-day delay on the UFC's longtime cable partner.

As MMAjunkie.com reported back in May, Belfort's camp was under the impression that the Brazilian fighter was next in line for a title shot. In fact, Chael Sonnen only got his recent shot at the belt because Belfort was forced to the sidelines due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.

However, Sonnen nearly defeated the champ – he was up four rounds to none before Silva rallied for a late-fight submission victory – and after that UFC 117 headliner, UFC president Dana White said Sonnen deserves an immediate rematch. With that fight now expected to take place later this year or early 2011, Belfort vs. Okami likely will determine a No. 1 contender.

Belfort, of course, hasn't even fought at 185 pounds under the UFC banner. Although riding a five-fight win streak, the only UFC appearance came a year ago and resulted in a first-round knockout of Rich Franklin at a catchweight of 195 pounds. Still, with his recent streak and early UFC success, he remains a marketable contender.

Okami, meanwhile, moved to 5-1 in his past six fights with a recent split-decision win over Mark Munoz. The only loss during the stretch came to Sonnen. Despite his bounty of UFC wins, Okami never has been promised a title shot, and he's even struggled to get featured on some televised main cards.

But afer the Munoz win, even White relented.

"Yushin Okami is one of the best 185-pounders in the world and has been for a while," he said. "This guy's due for a title shot."

Latest News on UFC 120 London O2

Mark Holst vs. Paul Sass official; UFC 120 complete with 11 bouts
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 21, 2010 at 1:15 pm ET
A lightweight contest between Mark Holst (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Paul Sass (10-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is now official, and the UFC 120 lineup is now complete with 11 bouts.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously confirmed plans for the contest, and the UFC recently announced the bout as official for UFC 120's preliminary card.

Featuring a middleweight contest pitting "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner Michael Bisping against Japanese star Yoshihiro Akiyama, UFC 120 takes place Oct. 16 at The O2 in London.

The main card airs in the U.S. via same-day delay on Spike TV.

Holst is one of two Canadian fighters gracing the UFC 120 card. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, "Boots" looks to redeem himself after a decision loss to John Gunderson in his octagon debut at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale in June. The setback snapped a three-fight win streak.

Holst works out of Renzo Gracie affiliate academy Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts and carries an equal number of submissions and TKO stoppages in his eight professional wins. (He has two victories by way of triangle choke.)

Meanwhile, Sass, who hails from Liverpool, England, is one of four British fighters who make their octagon debuts at the card, though his resume stands alone. Undefeated in 10 appearances, he holds a record for seven consecutive victories by way of triangle choke. Only two of his opponents have made it out of the first round with him.

Nicknamed "Sassangle," Sass trains out of the Next Generation MMA gym and Team Kaobon alongside UFC veterans Terry Etim, Paul Taylor and Paul Kelly.

With the addition, the complete UFC 120 card now includes:

MAIN CARD

•Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Michael Bisping
•Carlos Condit vs. Dan Hardy
•John Hathaway vs. Mike Pyle
•Travis Browne vs. Cheick Kongo
•Claude Patrick vs. James Wilks
PRELIMINARY CARD (un-aired)

•Cyrille Diabate vs. Alexander Gustafsson
•Rob Broughton vs. Vinicius Kappke de Quieroz
•Steve Cantwell vs. Stanislav Nedkov
•Spencer Fisher vs. Kurt Warburton
•Tom Blackledge vs. James McSweeney
•Mark Holst vs. Paul Sass

more latest UFC news hot off the press....

The UFC is making tentative plans to return to Ireland.

The promotion, which previously held events in Ireland and Northern Ireland, is likely to return to the Emerald Isle, perhaps sometime around St. Patrick's Day, according to UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik.

"We are targeting Dublin for 2011 and working toward March, but St. Patty's Day may not fit perfectly for us," Zelaznik wrote in an email to MMA Fighting. "But hope is we will be there in '11."

Last month, Zelaznik told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani that the company was holding four dates in the first quarter of the year for Dublin, and though a date still seems to be undecided upon, according to Zelaznik, the UFC has settled on Dublin's 02 Arena as the stage for the event.

A return would come about two years since the UFC last visited. UFC 93 took place at the aforementioned 02 Arena in Dublin in Jan. 2009, while UFC 72 emanated from Belfast, Northern Ireland in June 2007.

Before that happens, however, the UFC will return to the neighboring UK with UFC 120, which will take place at the 02 Arena in London and features a main event of Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.

In addition, a November event in Oberhausen, Germany is rumored, though the company has yet to officially announce it. Other European options are also being considered for the November date, though Germany clearly remains the company's top choice.
